BAIRDS MALT - updated product range

Bairds has recently reviewed the naming of our malt range, recognising that some products had previously been marketed under different names in different markets. As a result, we’ve made some slight variations in our product naming, with new malt names in effect 1 January 2022.

The information below outlines some of the product names that have been changed, along with the details of a few malt products that have been retired from our collection. As always, we’re happy to help with any question you may have, or you’re welcome to contact your local Bairds representative below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions you may have about our updated product range. For more information, please contact us.

Why have the product names changed?

We’ve aligned the naming of some of our products that were previously referred to by different names in different markets. We’ve done this to ensure it’s easier for people to understand the full range of malts that Bairds offers.

Have the products changed?

No, we’ve simply amended the naming of some of our malts to provide a standardised naming across our malt collection. We have reviewed malt specifications which is something we always do on an annual basis to ensure they reflect the latest crop year. That said, these specific updates are mostly related to the naming of our malt collection, so at their heart they are the same product.

Where can I see which products have changed names?

You can view the full list of our malt names on the table below, along with a reference as to what the products were sometimes previously named as.

Which products have been discontinued?

We’ve taken the decision to retire 6 of our malts to allow us to focus on producing the malts that are the most sought after in the market. We have retired the Speyside Distilling Malt, the Greenwich Crystal Malt, the Maris Otter Crystal Malt, Dark Caramalt,  Pale Chocolate Malt and Hi-Dry Malt.

We’ve also recently introduced a new malt into our collection. Malt 2.0 is a new malt that is made exclusively from Sassy barley, a new variety that has been identified through the Bairds Early Evaluation Programme that helps to identify new barley varieties.

As we’ve renamed some of our malts, you may wish to reference the table below. This more clearly outlines the naming of our malt range, and previous names that you may have known our products as.
