Bairds Malt Graduate Programme

Each year we take on one or two graduate production trainees. The programme runs for 18 months and provides a wide range of experiences within the production environment across our malting sites, alongside a structured training programme. Trainees are given responsibility from day one and get an insight into many aspects of the business, spending about 6 months at each location, while learning the art of making high quality malt.

This programme is for graduates who are looking for a career in the malting industry with our preference being for graduates with a degree in agriculture, engineering, or a science subject.

The Production teams at our five UK malting sites have a key part to play in producing high quality malt. Whether it's a Peat Fire Operator, a Maintenance Electrician, or a Shift Process Operator we're looking for, we expect you to be able to deliver a high standard of work. Financial Reporting Accountant - Arbroath

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Financial Reporting Accountant

REPORTS TO: CFO (to be confirmed)

DEPARTMENT: Finance

LOCATION: Arbroath

HOURS: 35 per week

SUMMARY OF JOB:

Providing direct support to the Bairds Malt Finance team with particular responsibility for all financial reporting aspects of the activities of Bairds Malt.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsibility for the compilation of the monthly, as well as half year and full year, financial reporting to GrainCorp Malt in accordance with group IFRS and policies.
    • This includes maintaining the accounting records for the Holding companies in the group.
    • Liaison with divisional finance teams to adhere to timetable.
    • Collation of the consolidation including consolidation entries.
    • Any IFRS mark to market as well as IFRS accounting.
    • Bi annual pension accounting under IFRS.
    • Preparation of the taxation provision each month (supported by CFO).
    • Preparation and compilation of the GrainCorp group reporting packages in accordance with IFRS.
  • Responsibility for compilation and submission of the annual budget as well as monthly, quarterly formal forecasts. This is done in conjunction with the Maltings Financial Controller and the Management Accountant.
  • Responsibility for the maintenance of internal controls, GrainCorp and Bairds Malt delegation adherence. This includes credit assessments on new and existing customers.
  • Responsibility for quarterly group reporting which includes Credit exposure report, Credit exceptions report and Regulatory Fining report.
  • Together with the CFO, Maltings Financial Controller and Management Accountant responsibility for internal and external audit liaison.
  • Responsibility for tax compliance which is supported by the CFO.
    • Completion of Tax advisor tax packs for collation of information.
    • Completion of quarterly CT61 withholding tax on interest payments.
    • VAT return compilation.
  • Responsibility for UK statutory reporting under UK GAAP (which is IFRS based).
  • Responsibility for all National Statistics forms (to be reviewed by CFO before final submission.

HR Co-ordinator - Witham

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: HR Coordinator

REPORTS TO: HR Manager

DEPARTMENT: Human Resources

FUNCITONAL LINKS: HR and Recruitment Adviser (HRA), Learning and Development Manager (LDM) 

 LOCATION: Witham

HOURS: Part time 20 - 22.5 hrs per week

(Mon to Fri 4 - 4.5 hours a day)

SUMMARY OF JOB:

Responsible for the day to day HR, recruitment and payroll administration and providing general support to the HR team as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Record Keeping:

  • Create and maintain all staff files, both hard copy, electronic copy and on the HR System. (Currently ADP Freedom) to ensure that data for starters, leavers and all employees remain up to date.

Recruitment and induction:

  • Assist the HRA with the recruitment process including maintaining applicant records, arranging interviews and dealing with rejections.
  • Ensure correct documentation is issued to new starters and returned
  • Oversee the outsourced referencing process
  • Carry out vehicle licence checks for drivers.
  • Coordinate and record the six month Induction process from start to finish including liaising with managers to ensure required progress has been made in the role, review of sickness absence and checking with L & D manager to ensure compulsory training completed.
  • Notify relevant people about new starter joining dates so training and induction can be arranged
  • Provide induction packs to managers for new starters and ensure signed confirmation received

IT:

  • Liaise with IT consultants to ensure correct IT access is put in place for new starters including requests for computer equipment and mobile phones where appropriate.

  • Ensuring that group e-mail addresses are maintained to include starters, leavers and changes of role

General Administration:

  • Dealing with correspondence during the Lifespan of each employee to include salary increases, changes in benefits, acceptance of resignation letters
  • Respond to reference requests

  • Ensure all filing is up to date and electronic copies are in the correct format.

Payroll:

Occupational Health:

  • Arrange for pre employment Drug and Alcohol tests to be carried out for all new joiners
  • Coordinate and oversee the annual Occupational Health and Wellbeing Tests at all sites.
  • Liaise with Occupational Health consultants to arrange appointments for medical referrals.

Reporting:

  • Prepare the following reports using data from the system by spreadsheet:
    • Employee All information – monthly – spreadsheet report of all data from HR system
    • Sickness absence – monthly - report sickness absence for all employees to ascertain any patterns and/or solutions and identify issues to managers.
    • Overtime – monthly – report overtime for all employees and flag up high levels.
    • Metrics report for Graincorp – monthly – includes details of hours for employees plus contractors and temporary staff
    • Metrics summary report – monthly –SHE manager, Financial Controller, IT NA
    • Reporting starters, leavers and role changes to Learning@Graincorp – as required
    • Organisation charts – monthly
    • Pension budget – quarterly – update on pension spending
    • Various reports from the HR system to provide data for budgets, information for life assurance renewals, pensions and benefits throughout the yea

Communications:

  • Compile the Bairds Newsletter – quarterly – for all employees

Production Operator - Witham

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Production Operator  

REPORTS TO: General Manager

LOCATION: Witham

HOURS: 42.5 hours a week with a 30 minute lunch break. 8am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday

SUMMARY OF JOB:

To ensure that all barley coming in to the Witham site is tipped, dried and stored correctly to ensure that barley is of the correct quality for steeping as it is required. Ensure the upkeep of all records and report stock positions on a regular basis. Maintain a good standard of hygiene in all areas of the silos.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operation of machinery within the barley department.
  • Carry out routine cleaning as required.
  • Intake bulk loads.
  • Out load screening bulk loads.
  • Ensure the pre steep silos are full on both the new plant and old plant.
  • Manage the screening levels within the barley silos .
  • Silo bin dips
  • Managing the barley silos
  • Assist with the barley daily intake schedule

Shift Relief Operator - Inverness

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Shift Relief Operator 

REPORTS TO: Plant Manager

LOCATION: Inverness

HOURS: Average of 40 hours per week. Working times will vary and there will be a requirement to work 12 hour shifts both on Saturdays and Sundays to provide holiday cover as necessary.

 No holidays can be taken during the busy harvest period

SUMMARY OF JOB:

The role involves spending approximately 22 weeks of the year working on shift as a holiday relief shift operator responsible for manufacturing malt and approximately 22 weeks working on days on plant hygiene and malt outloading. These 22 week periods will not be in continuous blocks and will be determined by the need to accommodate the holiday dates of the shift operators.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

While working shifts

  • Production of malt or barley drying, as per the instructions from the maltings management.This includes the steeping, germination, kilning and drying operations.
  • Transfer of barley from the barley plant into production as required.
  • Co-ordinate the correct addition of process aids and record usage, if required.
  • Run kilned malt to the malt bins as and when needed.
  • Liaise with the engineering staff to report and assist in identifying operational issues.
  • Liaise with malting management to report any obvious productions anomalies and be familiar with the operational practices.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the box and under box after stripping the kiln and all of the working area.
  • Complete all necessary records in accordance with the company quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with the company safety procedures and the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

While working days

  • Assist Malt Technicians to dress malt and barley
  • Assist in maintaining high standards of plant hygiene by power washing, vacuum cleaning and sweeping plant and equipment.
  • Operate the fork lift truck

Store Manager - Turriff

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Store Manager 

REPORTS TO: Production Manager Scotland

DEPARTMENT: Production & Technical

LOCATION: Rosehall, Turriff

SUMMARY OF JOB:

The primary objective of the job holder is to manage the personnel and drying/storage facilities at the Rosehall site and maintain a good standard of maintenance, documentation and housekeeping. It is essential that the job holder is able and motivated to work alone on occasions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Management of the operation of Rosehall store in liaison with Production Manager Scotland, adhering to all BML policies and procedures
  • Attend and contribute to quarterly EHS meetings & Audits
  • Oversee the preparation and cleaning of all plant buildings and equipment in readiness for annual harvest
  • Implement breakdown and repair procedures including fabrication work and all planned plant maintenance regimes, with due regard to the safety of personnel and plant
  • Maintain housekeeping, hygiene and maintenance records according to the site schedule and identify any future investment needed
  • Complete site weekly / monthly compliance checks including fire alarm, ladders, emergency lighting, extinguishers etc.
  • Coordination of fumigation of plant buildings and equipment. Implement corrective action as recommended by pest control contractor
  • Induction and control of Visitors and Contractors to site, including issuing permits where required
