Bairds Malt Graduate Programme

Each year we take on one or two graduate production trainees. The programme runs for 18 months and provides a wide range of experiences within the production environment across our malting sites, alongside a structured training programme. Trainees are given responsibility from day one and get an insight into many aspects of the business, spending about 6 months at each location, while learning the art of making high quality malt.

This programme is for graduates who are looking for a career in the malting industry with our preference being for graduates with a degree in agriculture, engineering, or a science subject.

The Production teams at our five UK malting sites have a key part to play in producing high quality malt. Whether it's a Peat Fire Operator, a Maintenance Electrician, or a Shift Process Operator we're looking for, we expect you to be able to deliver a high standard of work. In order to make and deliver high quality malt to our customers, there is also a support team which includes Accounts, Human Resources, Commercial and Laboratory functions, amongst others. Maintenance Electrician - Witham

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Electrician

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Foreman

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

LOCATION: Witham

HOURS:7.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.30 minute paid break.  Call-out cover one week in three rota

SUMMARY OF JOB:

Responsible to the above for the operation and maintenance of all electrical equipment to ensure the required levels of malt production are achieved in accordance with current electrical standards and corresponding legislation.  The position also provides assistance to all on-site personnel by agreement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carry out planned and non-routine maintenance, including breakdown rectification at the Witham site using appropriate electrical testing regimes.
  • Liaise with maltings management to report any obvious maintenance anomalies and to be familiar with the latest Plant instructions and procedures.
  • Recommend alterations and improvements to operation of equipment where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the installation and commissioning of new equipment and plant where appropriate.
  • Provide assistance and work flexibly (with due regard to competence, capability and knowledge), with site staff and contractors.
  • Competent to the 17th edition electrical standard.

Maintenance Fitter - Grantham

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Fitter 

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

LOCATION: Grantham

HOURS: 40 per week, Monday to Friday 7.30am-4.30pm.  Call out requirement on a rota basis, 1 week in 4 and position holder must be located within 60 minutes of the plant.

SUMMARY OF JOB:

Responsible to the Maintenance Supervisor for the operation and maintenance of all mechanical equipment to ensure the required levels of malt production are achieved in accordance with good practice standards and corresponding legislation.The position further provides assistance to all on site personnel, where required.All employees must adhere to the zero drink and drugs policy and wear all personal protective equipment required on site. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carry out planned and non-routine maintenance, including breakdown rectification at the Grantham malting using best practice regimes.

Production Operator - Witham

 

JOB TITLE: Malt Weighbridge Operator

REPORTS TO: General Manager

LOCATION: Witham

HOURS: 42.5 hours Monday to Friday with a half hour paid break

SUMMARY OF JOB:

Responsible to the Plant Manager for the efficient operation of the weighbridge including traffic management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include the weighing in and out of bulk lorries, containers and waste transfer lorries.

  • Out-loading bulk container loads and one tonne bags.
  • Fitting container bulk lorries.
  • Inspection of containers and bulk lorries.
  • Malt sampling.
  • Silo bin dips.
  • Dresser Checks.
  • Turning malt from silo to silo, including checking blend sheets and updating bin-boards on a daily basis.
  • Malt out loading checks in accordance with customers quality procedures.
  • Liaise with hauliers and commercial department.
  • Maintain high levels of cleanliness through the whole plant and surrounding areas.
  • Cleaning all rubbish to designated skips and recovery of as much usable product as possible.
  • Liaison with malting management to report any production anomalies and be familiar with the latest instructions and procedures.

HOURS: 40 per week, 0800 to 1630 Monday to Friday, 30 minute unpaid break. No holidays allowed during harvest period

SUMMARY OF JOB:

Responsible to the Maintenance Supervisor for the operation and installation of all site buildings electrical wiring and lighting in accordance with current electrical standards and corresponding legislation. The position further provides assistance to all on site personnel, where required. All employees must adhere to the zero drink and drugs policy and wear all personal protective equipment required on site. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Carry out planned and non-routine electrical maintenance, rectification using best practice regimes.
  • Liaise with malting management to report any obvious maintenance anomalies and to be familiar with the latest instructions and procedures.

Store Operator - Turriff

JOB TITLE: Store Operator

REPORTS TO: Store Manager

DEPARTMENT: Rosehall

LOCATION: Rosehall, Turriff

HOURS: 40 hours per week.  Overtime required to be worked during harvest period. No holidays to be taken during barley harvest period

SUMMARY OF JOB:

The primary objective of the jobholder is to assist the Store manager in operating the drying/storage facilities at Rosehall Site and help maintain a good standard of maintenance, documentation and housekeeping.It is essential that the job holder is motivated and able to work alone on occasions. All employees must adhere to all environmental, health and safety requirements of the Company

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and clean all plant buildings and equipment in readiness for annual harvest
  • Oversee temporary harvest workers over the seasonal harvest intake period
  • Assist with breakdown and repair procedures as required by the Store Manager, with due regard to the safety of personnel and plant
  • Operation of the Rosehall store in accordance with instructions from Store Manager
  • Maintain housekeeping, hygiene and maintenance records according to the site schedule
  • Loading vehicles with grain using mechanical shovel

OPERATIONAL DUTIES
